I forgot to mention breakfast and lunch. For breakfast, is an Apple or banana okay? And for lunch I was planning on eating a salad on school days other than Friday.

Hi Nathan! Thanks for joining Congratulations on making the crucial first step to a healthier lifestyle change.
I'm Jess, a weightloss coach of the admin team. Having lost 60lbs during college, I know how difficult it can be to lose weight, especially when people in the family eat takeout and processed food. But I know it is possible.
I'd like to share with you 10 things I wish I knew and what I would tell any young person trying to lose weight:
1. Weightloss is 80% diet, and 20% exercise. Nobody can exercise away a horrible diet. It all starts with what we put into our bodies.
2. Treat your body like a shrine, monitor and write down everything that goes into it and all the changes you've made. I promise you will start feeling incredible physically and mentally.
3. Remember: your body keeps an accurate journal regardless of what you write down.
4. Your body can do anything. It's just your brain you have to convince. You have already started, now repeat it every single day in case you forget.
5. Learn what your macro ratio should be. Know how much fat/carb/protein you should have for your body. Aim for foods that do not spike your insulin levels too fast and too much i.e. cut out soda and high processed foods.
6. Workout not because you hate your body, workout because you love it.
7. Drink water. Staying hydrated is the key to health and weight loss.
8. Consistency is key. Do something to improve your health every day, no matter how big or small.
9. Visualize, imagine, envision the new you. See it so clearly that it gets closer within reach every day and every step. Do this for you above everyone else. Write down reasons why it will improve your life.
10. Weightloss is truly a combination of consistency, motivation and action. Stay on your path and be patient. This lifestyle change is a marathon, not a sprint.

Hi Nathan,

I would recommend checking out Tim Ferriss' stuff. He has a book called "The 4 hour Body" that is excellent. You can find it on Amazon for less than $10 used. He has a specific diet listed in it that is called "The Slow Carb Diet".

If you don't want to buy the book, his blog talks about it a bit. You can do a search for it or you can go to this link which goes to his blog where he talks about the diet:

In a nutshell, the diet is to only eat meats, veggies, and beans for 6 days a week, and the 7th day, eat whatever you want. Repeat until the weight comes off. This diet would be great for you because a lot of the foods on the diet are cheap or can be found cheap. Eggs is a big staple for it and they are cheap. As are beans. You have a choice of many vegetables, and can pick the cheaper ones you can find and same with meat. Breadless chicken doesn't cost much in a large frozen bag. The diet also doesn't require exercise.
