Before you read this post keep in mind I am not advocating that external beauty is more important than inner beauty. If you don't believe that go read my post (...and it has nothing to do with being strong, sexy, or skinny): What is Beauty? This post, however, is about making myself feel great on both the inside and out! I am the first to admit it, I am girly and love all things hair, make up, and fashion, but when it comes to my own beauty I am full of excuses. I don't have time, it costs too much, I am not pretty so why bother... those excuses all come to mind. But here's the deal. When I actually started to take time for myself, I started to realize that all these things that I deemed as "selfish" or a "waste of time" were actually huge for me.


You know that feeling you get when you get your hair done and feel amazing for the first 24 hours of having it done? Or what about the way getting a manicure can instantly boost your mood? I promise these are not silly things.  To be honest they do so much more for me than just make my hair prettier or my nails look better. They give me a confidence boost. Make me feel a little prettier.  I promise it is not selfish or vain; yes it may be a false sense of confidence but bottom line is it is confidence.

Let me ask you, how many of you have waited to buy an outfit until you lost a little weight, or saved something for that special occasion when you feel amazing, but it never came? I've done it too and it's not worth waiting. Instead of waiting until you're at your "ideal" weight to wear something, why not make what you weigh now "ideal" for that perfect outfit you've been wanting to get.

I work from home about half of the time and let me tell you, it is quite tempting to walk around in sweatpants all day, but I think I would get nothing done. I would hide behind my clothes as I've done in the past. Instead I dress nicely every day for work, even if the only person to see me is my puppy, Sophie. I feel better, have more energy, and actually want to take care of myself. So yes I get the occasional manicure, dress up, spend a little too much money on shoes and I promise it is not to make myself feel more beautiful, but it is to give me that glow. That little piece of self-care that really makes a difference.  So next time when you are reaching for those sweatpants, I want you to think, how will you feel wearing them? If it's not so good, why not reach for something that will make you feel fabulous instead. You're worth it.
