Water makes up more than two-thirds of the weight of the human body. It regulates the body temperature and is a key component in saliva and in fluids surrounding joints. It helps reduce fluid retention, and helps keep bowel functions normal.
Drinking water can significantly cut calories!
It is often difficult to distinguish between being thirsty and being hungry, so you may want to try drinking water and then wait 20 to 30 minutes to see if you're still hungry.
By substituting water for sodas, sugar-laced coffee drinks and other super sweet drinks, you can reduce your caloric intake significantly!
Some of the water in our body is obtained through foods we eat and some is the byproduct of metabolism. Alcoholic beverages and beverages containing caffeine (examples: coffee, tea and colas) are not the best choices because they have a diuretic (water-excreting) effect. Drinking water remains your best source of water. Makes sense, huh?
So how much water do you need? Well, the standard recommendation is six to eight 8-ounce glasses of water on a daily basis. However if you want to be more specific, you can calculate how much you need by taking your weight in pounds and dividing by two. The result is the number of ounces of water you should drink a day.
Example: If you weigh 150 pounds, you would need to drink 75 ounces of water each day -- just a little less than ten 8-ounce glasses of water.
