Thanksgiving could very easily be my favorite holiday. I know most of you are all thinking of the awesome food that you'll be forced to either turn down or indulge in. But I have found that since losing weight it is easier to manage Thanksgiving knowing a few simple rules to follow:

How to Lose Weight on Thanksgiving

1. Small portions of everything " don't overload on the potatoes, turkey, gravy and stuffing. If you put a small portion " think a serving the size of your palm " of each food, you will be pleasantly full at the end of your meal.

2. Eat slowly! The faster you eat, the more calories you consume before you realize you're full. As you may know, it takes 20 minutes or more for your stomach to feel full when eating. So think small bites, with water in between!

3. Send people home with leftovers " Keep yourself from indulging in the leftovers the next day by sending people home with the food. Out of sight, out of mind!

4. Indulge smartly " with all of the different dessert options today, there are some that are healthier than others. If you are looking for a low-calorie, low-fat dessert option, check out this Pumpkin Pie recipe.

Stay on top of your workout routine by taking a long brisk walk in the middle of the day, or get your exercise out of the way first thing in the morning before the temptation to skip it overcomes you!

Some simple exercises to do at home when you think you've overdone it at the dinner table:

3 sets of 15 squats

3 sets of 15 lunges in place (each side)

3 sets of 15 push ups on your knees (or regular push ups if able)

3 sets of tricep dips on a chair

Have a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the tips
