Summer weather is finally here! The arrival of summer signifies it’s time to shed those layers of heavy clothing.
Fashion dictates, that after Memorial Day weekend it is OK to wear white clothing. Many women fear getting into their white and pastel colored pants during the summer months.
A patient recently called my office complaining about her appearance in white pants. She said the dimples in her buttocks are visible through her pants.
Although the dimples have been present for a long time, this is the first time she really felt concerned about their appearance. Previously, she wore regular underwear which covered the dimples, since she switched to G-strings and thongs the dimples have become visible through her pants.
This is not an uncommon story. I once encountered a woman in Ohio who wore two pairs of panties when wearing white or pastel colored pants to hide her dimples. This patient had undergone liposuction to make her buttocks flawless and instead it resulted in deeper dimples which were very visible. This patient was treated with surgical Subcision to get rid of the dimples two years ago and today she is quite happy.
Dimples are an interesting phenomenon in the sense that they are not usually visible in pants when standing. They do become more visible and prominent while walking. The leg which is swinging forward during walking does not normally show dimples but the leg which is getting ready to push off will clearly show a dimple if it is present. Some of these dimples are functional dimples but the real dimple will appear deeper and wider.
There are not too many ways to conceal dimples in the buttocks. Certain types of undergarments such as girdles, support hoses and control top panties help to conceal dimples. If you want to get rid of dimples permanently, surgical Subcision or Mesotherapy Stringcision is the only procedures which can get rid of dimples.
As for the patient who complained of her white pants, she recently underwent a Subcision procedure. She is looking forward to wearing her white pants this summer without fear and embarrassment.
