Choosing the right diet is a complex and confusing process, and that is why so many people give up on their weight loss journey after just a few weeks. With the ketogenic diet, you will actually change how your body processes food and stores fat cells. Here is a closer look at a few reasons why so many people are now following this effective and unrestrictive diet.


You Won’t Feel as Hungry


One of the most difficult aspects of starting a new diet is trying to overcome hunger pangs. You begin to feel those hunger pangs because your body can’t find an adequate source of energy and it is going into a state of shock. A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that the keto diet is one of the most effective ways to minimize hunger pangs while on a caloric deficit. When you don’t have food in your stomach, your body will immediately start using your fat cells as a source of energy.


Reduce Your Risk of Cardiovascular Diseases


We now know that limiting carbs is a great way to lower cholesterol levels, stabilize insulin production, and increase blood lipid levels. That makes the keto diet the perfect option for those who have a family history of Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks, and strokes. A few smaller studies have shown us that it can also minimize the side effects of some of those health problems.


Fuel Your Brain


Many people don’t realize that a low-carb diet is good for the brain as well. After being on the keto diet for a short period of time, your body will go into a state of ketosis. While you are in ketosis, your cardiovascular system can flood your brain with a higher concentration of vital nutrients. Further studies are needed, but some specialists believe that the keto diet can also lower one’s risk of various cognitive disorders.


Eat What You Love


Quite a few people stick to the keto diet simply because they can eat all of their favorite foods. While you will have to minimize your intake of carbohydrates and processed sugar, you can continue to eat a wide variety of animal-based products. That includes eggs, butter, cheese, red meats, chorizo (like that from Cibao Meat Products or another such meat provider), lean meats, and seafood. Around 90 percent of your diet will be comprised of protein and healthy fats.


Before starting any diet, you should first speak with your doctor about your overall health. Even though the ketogenic diet can be extremely effective, it isn’t always a great option for those who are breastfeeding, pregnant, or taking certain medications.
