"In order for me to lose weight and keep it off, I had to make a permanent change."

This was the realization that Kaylie Walker came to when she decided to get serious about weight loss in September of 2009. Fast forward a couple of years and the 5' 2" Kaylie is down 25 lbs from her starting weight of 142 lbs - maintaining a healthy body weight of around 117 lbs for over 2 years now!

The 21-year-old registered nurse - and now fitness instructor! - was leaving supportive comments on other Diet.com members' blogs for several months before she began blogging herself in January 2010. That first blog began what has ended up becoming a personal library of over 130 Diet.com blogs in the last 2+ years.

Within a couple of months of blogging on Diet.com, Kaylie (who is known on Diet.com by her username dizz15926) was making incredible strides. She was diligently tracking her food intake using the Diet.com Meal Tracker, as well as trying out tons of new healthy recipes (like this Breaded Chicken Bake).

"For a long time, I was an avid user of the Diet.com's Meal Tracker," she recently told Diet.com, looking back at those early days on the site. "Every evening I logged everything I ate for the day. It kept me aware of what I was eating on a daily basis."

As she expanded her diet to include tons of new foods, she realized that eating healthy wasn't so bad after all!

"I've been consistently eating super healthy and doing a lot of cooking," she wrote in one of her early 2010 blogs. "I noticed I'm open to trying new things and find that if I set my picky eating attitude aside and try something new I find I actually like it! I never used to try ANYTHING."

kaylie before weight lossAs she tried out new foods and recipes, she made sure to share them with her fellow Diet.com members via her blog - helping to foster a supportive community while encouraging other Diet.commers to try new foods themselves. But eating well wasn't the only step that Kaylie was taking towards becoming healthier and reaching her goal weight. She tackled the "fitness" aspect of her new healthy lifestyle with gusto!

Becoming a regular at her local gym, Kaylie discovered that she really loved taking different kinds of exercise classes. Her enthusiasm was noticed by one of the fitness instructors at her gym, who even invited Kaylie to teach her own workout class there!

Kaylie was thrilled at the offer, but knew she needed to become a certified fitness instructor before she could teach her own class. Luckily an opportunity presented itself when Kaylie found out about a weekend-long fitness convention in Philadelphia that offered fitness classes, workshops... and certification classes! She signed right up, had a blast at the convention trying out all sorts of different fitness classes. Her enthusiasm and drive paid off, and she came home a certified instructor of cardio fitness classes.

She even learned at the convention that she had a great fondness for Zumba, and set her sights on becoming certified to teach that as well. In addition to teaching workout classes at her gym, Kaylie was also a big fan of our Diet.com Videos.

"I use the fitness videos all of the time to give me fresh ideas to try out at the gym or at home," she tells Diet.com.

When she checked in with us in her blog on February 26, 2010, things were going wonderfully for Kaylie, and she was so happy to report her progress:

Since September I have learned to LOVE the gym, eat completely healthy, and overcome 'bad days' and challenges.

So far, I've lost 26 lbs., am 1 pound away from being back to my old happy weight aka GOAL weight, have more of a toned body than I ever have, am back into jeans I wore 3-4 years ago, AND am doing something wild--just booked a trip to NYC to become Zumba certified so I can teach others a FUN way to work! (Something I was taught along my journey.)

I'm also becoming quite the cook!! I love to cook! It's so relaxing and fun!

The moral of the story: Never EVER EVER give up on yourself or let anyone tell you that something isn't possible. There were times I would only lose a whopping pound/week but I didn't let that bring me down. Everyone has goals...and those are goals that can be met. It's all about how much you want it!

Throughout her journey, no matter how busy her life got (and she was super busy between teaching Zumba and going to nursing school!) Kaylie always made sure to check in with Diet.com on her blogs, posting blogs herself and leaving supportive comments on others' blogs.

weight loss beforeIn a blog from March 2010, Kaylie wrote, "Believe it or not, although I don't know any of you personally, every motivational blog, success story, and sense of empowerment from you all constantly sticks with me everyday. I'm one of those people - the worry-wart, caring type (soon to be nurse, let's pray!), so I really do think about you all and am constantly cheering you on!"

"Blogging through Diet.com has helped me a lot by giving me a place to talk about fitness/exercising with people who are interested in it too," Kaylie told Diet.com last month. "I've gained a great deal of knowledge and ideas from fellow Diet.com bloggers during my journey as well."

Kaylie graduated from nursing school in December 2011, and officially became a registered nurse in early 2012. In some of her most recent blogs, she's updated us that she has finally become certified to teach Zumba, something she's been striving towards for a long time now, and is even renting her own space to teach fitness classes! And - surprise, surprise - she's on her way towards yet another certification, this time for Masala Bhangra (a fun style of dance fitness).

How has she managed to maintain her weight during such a busy time in her life? Here are some of Kaylie's top tips, in her own words:

Her Favorite Type of Exercise:
Zumba Fitness. I've stuck with exercising for this long because of my passion for the program. Also, I sweat the most, burn the most calories, and have the most fun doing it! I also love yoga. If I could go to a yoga class daily I would. It is the best way for me to stretch out when I am sore, helps me stay limber, and helps me clear my mind.
