According to research presented at this meeting, snacking has continued to increase among Americans. If fact, snacking increased so much from 1977 to 2006 that our daily snacking provides 25% of our daily caloric intake and amounts to an additional 580 calories per day. That amounts to a fourth full meal for many of us! While this would not necessarily be bad if we ate that amount or less at our regular meals, we often eat more than 600 calories at our regular meals.
