So I was at the gym today, and something occured to me. We always hear how men can lose weight easily. While sweating it out on the elliptical, I was observing how the two genders approach exercise. The women, for the most part, were working out steadily, paying attention to their heart rates, slowly building speed on the treadmill or bikes, looking carefully at the monitors on the elliptical. The men, on the other hand, were, for the most part, just jumping on whichever piece of equipment they could grab, going at it all out if only for a few minutes. It was almost like interval training was occurring for them naturally. Now I don't know exactly what this difference does in terms of weight loss or body sculpting, but it is a curiosity to me. Hardly a scientific observation, but something that gave me pause for a moment! That's my weird observation of the day, for what it's worth.

That is interesting! It's like they are so aggressive when they work out. It's probably not in most womens personality to approach things aggressively. HMMMM!

It also helps that they have overall less body fat and more muscle to begin with and their hormones are designed to help keep them that way. I told my hubby that if he approached strength training without thought he would get super sore and not want to continue. After doing all the chest exercises he could find, he came downstairs sheepishly and said he would take it easier next time.

I've noticed at the gym that a lot of the guys just do weights and stuff, while the women are on the treadmills and ellipticals. I still see men on them, too, but like you said, they usually go at it hard core from the get-go instead of easing into it. Funny observation, but true! ~Sara :o)

They have a lot more muscle which in turn burns more calories, even at rest! That's why weight training is so important for women. The more muscle we have the more calories we burn!
