There are many of us who feel unmotivated. We want to start a new career or lose weight but are lacking the self confidence and motivation to do anything about it. We assume a time will come when we'll FEEL like starting the new career, when we will want to get up and go to the gym.
Unfortunately, that time never comes, and if it does it's usually because the pain of not doing it has become unbearable.
I've got two solutions for your lack of motivation but you've got to do them, regardless of whether you feel like it or not.
1) Do Something Physical
Seriously. Go put on a song that you love... that makes you feel like moving. Even if you are dead on the couch and don't want to move. Just do this. Then, start singing and dancing to your favorite song. See how "unmotivated" you feel after that... NOT! I'm not kidding, if you want to change how you feel â€" physical movement is key. So, when you are looking for motivation - dance, go for a run, take a swim, hoola hoop â€" just MOVE!
2) Change Your Environment
Most of us sit in the same chair, in the same office for 8 to 10 hours per day. Or, we do the same things everyday â€" same routine. Time to change it up. Change up the order you do things.
Instead of sitting at your computer â€" grab the laptop and go outside for a change of scenery. Take it a step further and go to the local coffee shop. Shower in "the other bathroom." A change of scenery provides new information which is stimulating... it gets the brain working in new ways.
This is where new ideas are born, this is where new perspectives live. In this new environment, you are able to see new solutions to old problems. In your new environment, you'll come up with this great idea to get a few people in your neighborhood to walk/hike with you during the week â€" maybe you'll create a team of people who can motivate and inspire each other.
Getting motivated is our responsibility and it requires action â€" it's not just something that happens to us so stop waiting for it and create it!!
