Consumers have shown a strong interest in alternative herbal health remedies. Some individuals use these supplements to support general health and function, while others find them helpful to manage certain conditions. Here are four popular herbal alternative health remedies that help you feel better and perform at optimum physical levels.

Garlic

The common garlic that you use to flavor foods can also be used as powerful herbal health supplement. In fact, its primary use in ancient times was as a medicinal compound. Research supports garlic’s value to help a number of health problems, including as an aid to boost immune system function, to reduce blood pressure, lowering cholesterol levels and improving bone health. If you prefer a less odorous form, garlic capsules are available.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a root that is used in Asian cooking that has been used for thousands of years as a health aid. It contains a natural compound called “curcumin,” which can be used to help a variety of conditions, such as osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, skin itching, depression and hay fever. However, individuals with diabetes should only use it under the supervision of their doctor, because of the risk of dangerously lowering blood sugar levels.

Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo biloba is an extract made from the maidenhair tree that is native to the Asian continent. The extract has been used a health remedy for thousands of years, traditionally for problems such as bladder infections and sexual dysfunction. Some evidence suggests it can help to improve cognitive function, as has been used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, anxiety and memory problems. However, ginkgo can interact with other medications, so you should always consult your doctor before using it as a health supplement.

Cannabis

Research indicates that cannabis can be helpful in treating a variety of problems, such as epilepsy, muscle spasms, depression, post traumatic stress syndrome and social anxiety. Evidence suggests it can also be helpful in controlling the nausea and vomiting associated with cancer treatment and can help to manage pain from medical conditions. Cannabis with low levels of THC, the psychogenic component, can be useful for a wide variety of health problems, with a low level of side effects.

A wide range of alternative herbal health remedies are available. Individuals who are interested in more natural treatments for common health issues often prefer herbal alternatives, because of lower cost and fewer side effects. These four remedies have a track record of success in allowing people to enjoy better health in their daily lives.
