Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired?! Does it leave you exhausted just watching those exercise shows on television? Ever wonder where those instructors get all of their energy? The answer to your problem is simple: Get up and get moving!
Exercise supplies more oxygen to the brain and muscles resulting in alertness. Exercise also causes the body to create adrenaline and endorphins which "rev up" the body's responsiveness and produces a feeling of euphoria.
Consistent, mild to moderate activity such as walking or swimming is extremely effective. Exercise need not be strenuous to be beneficial.
The reason some people exercise and stay active while others stay far away from any form of exercise may simply lie in the individual's idea of what exercise means to them. Some may see exercise as a way to relieve stress (especially right after work), others may see it as "torture and sweat," while others may just have exercise as routine as brushing their teeth in the morning without thinking anything at all.
So, as the saying goes, "Change your mind, change your life."
Some of the benefits of exercise are:
--an increase in calories burned
--an increased metabolic rate
--reduced stress and anxiety
--release of endorphins (hormones that produce an overall feeling of well-being)
--may re-shape and tone the body
--reduces resting heart rate
--reduces blood pressure
--reduces serum cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL levels (bad cholesterol)
--increases serum HDL level (good cholesterol)
So get started!
Walking is one exercise that most people can do and enjoy. Even if you have been doing another form of exercise regularly, you may find that walking has many advantages as an addition to your exercise schedule.
And if you haven't exercised regularly for years, walking is the perfect way to get started. Start with a 15-20 minute walk. If that's comfortable, begin to work up to 30 minutes after 2-3 days.
In the beginning don't worry about how far you go in that time period, just concentrate on walking the entire length of time. Try to walk every day if you can.
