Oscar discovers that his overweight father is headed for health problems, if he doesn't change his lifestyle. Oscar and his friend Otis try to get help for his father. In the process, they find out important ways to make their own bodies healthy.

I read Oscar and Otis with my nine-year-old granddaughter. Autumn is an active child who attends a twice weekly Karate class. After class, she enjoys running around the track and having me time her. On the way to the car, she does several cart wheels across the parking lot before hopping into the car.

After taking turns reading Oscar and Otis, Fat Fighters--Autumn wrote down the following comments: "I think this book is too cool, because I think a lot of kids are overweight. It is so cool that you made a book about it, to help people.

"I think the pictures are awesome! I really like the picture where the dad is so fat, then where the dad gets healthy."

Grandma's Comments: I enjoyed the story and the artwork. In the story, the author tells the difference between healthy and unhealthy snacks. I also think it's important to know that people don't have to go to the gym to get fit. All they need to do is get up and get moving.

I would highly recommend this book for children. It addresses the growing issue of obesity in our country in terms that children understand. The author and illustrator were able to relate to young children and inform them of the dangers of being overweight and not eating healthy. I have two boys ages 5 and 11 years old who loved the book and asked about eating healthier foods and exercising together. I even ordered a copy for their school and received a lot of positive feedback from the teachers.

I got a free copy of this book through Library Thing, and thought I'd share my review here. This is a fairly interesting little book that's designed to help kids get motivated to get off of their butts and get into shape. I like the illustrations, and it's a cute little story. If you or your children need more exercise, I'd say get this book.

I purchased this book for my five year old daughter. She absolutely loved it! As soon as we finished reading it, she asked me to read it again. She laughed hysterically, but more importantly, she got it. After I read it for the second time, she asked me if we could exercise together. I highly recommend this book for anyone with small children. Healthy habits need to start early.

This is an excellent book, written and illustrated in a way that engages children. The illustrations are colorful and fun. The text is geared toward children with a humorous focus on educating them on the benefits of exercising and healthy eating habits. And as a bonus, while you are sharing this book with your children, you will be reminded of the benefits of taking care of yourself!
