If you’re like most people, your mornings can be a busy blur! Between wrestling with the alarm clock and making sure to get out the door on time, sometimes breakfast gets lost in the shuffle. It’s tempting to reach for a quick fix and snag a bagel and cream cheese from Dunkin’ Donuts or a croissant from Starbuck’s. But while these items may seem like a convenience at the time, the truth is that you’re also racking up some fast, unhealthy calories.
Slow down, take a breath and check out these 5 healthy ways to start your day!
1. Frosted Mini-Wheats. Party in the front, business in the back. These fiber-ful gems of wheat fill you up with hardly any fat, cholesterol OR sodium. That they are frosted and sweet makes it so that you don’t even need to add anything… except low fat or nonfat milk! Yes, they may be a bit high in sugar but they’re also high in fiber. Take a minute at night to measure out and Ziploc a serving of these bite-sized squares and breakfast will be a breeze.
2. English Muffin with peanut butter. Peanut butter in moderation is a great source of protein. For breakfast, it will also start you off with a bit of fiber. Investing in some extra fiber English muffins, like those made by Fiber One, is not a bad idea either. Starting your day with this filling fix is sure to get you off on the right foot. Bonus: It’s portable. You can easily take it with you on the run and eat it in your car with one hand!
3. Yogurt and Fiber One. Yoplait Whips are a delicious and healthy way to get calcium and Vitamin D. Top with Fiber One Cereal for a delicious dose of extra fiber and protein. Bag up the Fiber One the night before, and all you’ll have to do is grab the yogurt from the fridge as you head for the door!

4. Oatmeal and berries. Oatmeal has come a long way since the pioneer days; this wholesome breakfast is no longer a bland “oats and hot water” experience. You can now find oatmeal in a variety of different flavors: apple, raspberry, cinnamon, peach, strawberry, blueberry… even chocolate! If you have access to a microwave at work, just carry a packet of oatmeal with you and heat things up for breakfast! Bring along a few berries in a baggie for some extra taste and vitamins!
5. Hand-held meals. Don’t forget that a meal replacement bar with a handy piece of fruit is a quick and easy way to get some quality food into your stomach while you’re rushing around during morning madness.
Starting your day with breakfast should be a priority – not an inconvenience! Trust your gut and get some healthy substance in your belly when you rise, and you’ll be able to hear yourself think – instead of hearing your stomach growl.
