Find the Best Cookbook For Your Diet!
Welcome to Diet and Fitness Podcast, a free audio podcast sponsored by Diet.com. This is your fit, fun, and
fabulous host, Lady Diet, ready to give you the skinny on diet, fitness, health tips and news.
Through my love for cooking and delicious healthy food, I’ve realized that I’ve developed a new obsession…
Cookbooks! Do you ever find yourself browsing the cookbook section at your local bookstore, your stomach rumbling
with thoughts of all the delicious new things you can cook? I do.
If you’re starting a new diet, or you feel like you’re getting stuck in a rut or bored with your current one,
getting a new cookbook can really liven up your meal choices! You might be attached to your grandmother’s old
cookbook, with all those crumbs and food stains throughout the pages, reminiscent of comforting food memories. But
it’s time to upgrade! Here’s a little taste of some great cookbooks to try, whether you’re looking for vegetarian
options, low-fat, international, quick and convenient, or just the basics!
1) Even if you’re not a vegetarian, you’ll love Moosewood Restaurant’s series of cookbooks. My favorite is
Moosewood Restaurant Simple Suppers for $32.50, with beautiful full color photographs and 150 plus quick, healthy,
fresh, and contemporary recipes. I recommend trying their black beans with yellow rice recipe, or quinoa and
vegetable pilaf.
2)Having a Low-Fat Cookbook around can be a great diet saver if you and your checkbook are tired of dining out!
There are tons to choose from, but try the American Heart Association’s Meals in Minutes Cookbook for over 200 easy
low-fat recipes! It’s only $11, and it’s packed with great meals like Portobello Pizza with Peppery Greens, or
Chicken Fajita Pasta with Chipotle Alfredo Sauce. Delicious!
3) If you’re a beginning cook and you want to learn the basics, try an updated take on a classic. Betty Crocker’s
Cooking Basics: Learning to Cook with Confidence for $24.95. I love this cookbook because it’s spiral bound with
full color photos and glossy paper. Everything is laid out and easy to read, and you don’t have to fumble to keep
the book open while you’re actually cooking! In addition to some classic recipes, it’s got great tips and advice on
developing your cooking skills.
4) If you’re an adventurous eater and you looking for a global eating experience right at your own table, try an
international cookbook, like International Home Cooking: The United Nations International School 50th Anniversary
Cookbook for $20. It’s a collection of recipes from the families and students at the UN International School. Try
the Turkish Stuffed Squash or Peruvian Chicken with Peanut Sauce!
5) Looking for some great recipes but don’t want to pay for a cookbook? I recommend checking out Diet.com’s very
own Recipe section, if you haven’t done so already! There are over 1000 recipes on the site, complete with
nutrition information so you can easily keep on course with your diet. You can browse by food category, calories,
low fat, or just type your favorite ingredient into the search feature.
If you’re tired of eating the same old meals and you want something different, I hope you take into consideration
these five cookbook recommendations! Cooking at home rather than dining out is the best way to control your
calories and stick to your diet. Even if you don’t have much time to cook, there are plenty of resources out there
with quick and easy recipes. I suggest going to your bookstore or getting online to browse all the great cookbook
options out there! Good luck and happy cooking.
