Pull Yourself Out of a Plateau!

Welcome to diet and fitness podcast, a free audio podcast sponsored by Diet.com. This is your fit fun and fabulous host, Lady Diet, ready to give you the skinny on the latest diet, fitness health tips and news.

We’ve just reached the half way point in the Spring Ahead! Weight Loss Challenge! That means we’re over four weeks into our quest to lose weight in time for summer. Remember back at the beginning of April when we started the Challenge? Everyone really hit the ground running, excited to get in shape and make changes! Now that a bit of time has passed, do you find yourself lacking the motivation you had at the beginning of the Challenge? It’s common for us to lose the gusto we once had over time, but it’s just as easy to get out of the plateau! Get ready to re-motivate yourself! Today I’m going to share five little tips that are sure to give you a boost to weight loss success!

First, re-evaluate your goals. Are they achievable or are they high in the sky and out of reach? If you set mini goals for yourself rather than outlandish ones, you’ll reach them quicker. Once you reach your goal, you realize it really is possible to get results! Consequently, you motivate yourself to reach another goal, and then another, and another, and so on! Make a list of goals and be sure to check them off as you get to each one.

Have those breaks from the gym become more and more frequent until every day becomes your day off? Try posting motivational signs in your house in places you can see to get you back on track! Put one at your desk or on the bathroom mirror. Use some of your goals that I just mentioned as visual motivators to get active! Change the location of your signs every few weeks so they don’t fall into the background.

Treat yourself every once and awhile! If you do have a designated day off, reward yourself and remind yourself that you’ve earned your treat for all the hard work you’ve put in all week. As you really start integrating healthy choices into your diet, you might realize on your day off that you don’t even crave those sweets or less than healthy items anymore! Treat yourself to what makes you feel good!

Furthermore, another great way to re-motivate is to cook. Cooking to re-motivate, you might ask? From Lady Diet, of all people? That’s right! Cook a delicious, healthy meal. Throw in all your favorite new and nutritious ingredients that you’ve fallen in love with and note how great you feel after eating healthy.

Finally, take action on things that are stressing you out. Figure out why you’re feeling unmotivated. There are many elements in life that could be upping your stress levels while slowing down your progress. Problems at work, in social settings, with family and many other situations can have an effect on your motivation. Fix one element of your life and you’re sure to see improvements!

If you’re having trouble staying motivated, try some of these tips to get back in the game! Compare how you feel now, four weeks into the Challenge, with how you feel before you decided to make a change. Write your feelings down in a journal. Most importantly, never give up! You can reach your goals!
