Have fun at the gym… really!

I’m going to confess something. Your fit fun and fabulous host didn’t feel so fabulous at the gym last week. I laced up my shoes, grabbed my bag, and headed to the gym for my usual morning workout. But it just wasn’t the same! Sure, I did my cardio like I always do and I worked on my favorite weight machines and whatnot, but I just didn’t feel the motivation I usually do. I realized I had fallen into the fitness blues… the gym slump! I was bored! What do you do when the gym doesn’t drive you the way it used to? Well, the rest of the week I devoted to finding a solution to this! After a few thoughtful discussions with fellow fitness friends and some careful consideration, I’ve come up with five great ways to pull you out of the fitness blues and back to fitness fun when it comes to working out at the gym!

First, Music is the ultimate motivator! If the gym you go to isn’t playing music or you’re really tired of that weird radio station they always have on, bring a music player with you and be sure to change your play list often! Listen to music that gets you pumped up and moving; something you enjoy, something that makes you smile, something you absolutely love! Treat yourself to some new workout clothes. Freshen up your workout with a cute new outfit that makes you look and feel great! There are tons of innovative new fabrics out there that let your body breathe as you sweat so you stay comfortable and you don’t overheat. My favorite new workout pants? Danskin low-rise Capri leggings! But there are plenty to choose from so go shopping and have fun with it!

Join that class at the gym you’ve been thinking about all this time. Gyms everywhere are adding lots of new, interesting classes, from hot yoga to Tai Chi and kickboxing! I personally have just joined a meditation class. It’s the perfect way to distress after a long week of work! Also, supplement some of your cardio machine workouts for calorie and fat burning classes that are cardio-intense!

Go up and meet those people who you always see working out at the gym at the same time you are. Exchange diet and fitness advice, joke about that weird radio station they keep playing, and find out what they do to stay motivated at the gym!

Finally, try bringing a friend! If there’s someone who always asks you about your exercise routine or is having trouble getting motivated, invite him or her to come along with you the next time you head out to work out! Also, with a weight loss buddy, you’ve got someone to keep you in check when you’re feeling a little bit lazy. Help each other stay on track!

I am happy to report that after applying some of my tips to my own gym experience, I am free from the fitness blues and back to feeling fabulous because my workouts are fun again! If you ever find yourself in a slump, don’t be afraid to change things up and try something new. Trust me, it’s worth it!
