Youíre a busy person. You have projects due for class, a full-time job, or a family to take care of. Youíre so busy that you even forget to eat sometimes. Believe it or not, studies have shown that not eating regularly throughout the day can actually make you gain weight! So start snacking!

Iím going to list some easy to prepare snacks for those hectic days that you can just grab off the counter and go. I find that putting snacks in sandwich bags the night before is an easy way to have them handy for the next day. For example:

  • Pack some mini carrots or celery sticks in a sandwich bag. For some more flavor, put some ranch dressing or hummus in a container for dippingÖ tasty!
  • Pop some low-fat popcorn in the microwave and divvy it up into sandwich bags- itís a low calorie but filling snack that will give you a boost of energy.
  • Grab a low-fat yogurt but bring a small bag of granola to sprinkle on top- that way, youíre fitting more calcium, fiber, and whole grains into your diet.
  • Last but not leastÖ my favorite: trail mix! This is a great treat that really isnít that difficult to make. You can get it store bought or make your own. My favorite mix consists of cashews, pecans, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and raisins as well as a few chocolate chips for fun. Put it in a container, shake it up, and put a handful or two into sandwich bags. Youíve got a protein packed snack that tastes great!
