Welcome to Diet and Fitness Podcast, a free audio podcast sponsored by
Diet.com. This is your fit, fun, and fabulous host, Lady Diet, ready to
give you the skinny on the latest diet fitness health tips and
news.
St. Patrick’s Day is generally known as a day to dress up in kelly green,
pretend you’ve got Irish heritage, and enjoy a beer – or maybe five –
without folks thinking you’ve gone off the deep end. You’re probably
thinking that if you want to maintain the progress you’ve been making
towards a healthy lifestyle, you need to sit out this year’s parade. Lady
Diet is here to turn your tears into cheers. So put on your “Kiss Me, I’m
Irish” pin and head to a St. Patty’s celebration, because today I’m giving
you the lowdown on low-calorie beers.
1. Michelob Ultra. At 95 calories, this won’t weigh you down as you
drink up. I’m told, however, that the taste and flavor of the stuff is
comparable to tonic water. If taste takes a backseat to calories per
serving, then this light beer will be ultra-popular for you.
2. Miller Lite. This beer won Best American-Style Light Lager title
in 1996, 1998, 2002 and most recently in 2006. They’ve built their brand
on the slogan “Tastes great, less filling,” which tells you almost
everything you need to know about this light beer. Oh, there is one more
thing to know: it’s only 96 calories per 12-ounce serving.
3. Bud Light. At 110 calories per bottle or can, it has slightly
more calories than a typical light beer, but this light beer won our
Diet.com blind taste test this week! For a similar taste but fewer
calories and fewer carbs, try Bud Select and save 11 calories per bottle.
4. Pearl Light. This gem of a beer packs just 68 calories into a
12-ounce serving. Sadly, unless you live in select markets like Texas or
Oklahoma, you probably won’t be able to shuck this treasure, but you can
still go super-low with….
5. Beck’s Premier Light. Because of its tiny calorie impact we’ve
dubbed this the Mary-Kate of beers. Thanks to only 64 calories per
serving, you can drink more Beck’s Premiers without destroying your
calorie count for the day. But be careful. Just because there are fewer
calories, doesn’t mean you should have a dozen of them. Responsible
drinking has a lot more to do with moderation rather than the number of
calories in a beer!
Beers don’t come in convenient 100-calorie packs… at least not yet. But
with this as your guide, you can keep your calories per serving as low as
possible and still have a good time this St. Drinking – oops, I mean St.
Patrick’s Day.
