The New Year is practically here, and you’ve already made your list of resolutions. But how will you stick to those resolutions? Follow these 5 easy steps to staying on track and you’ll be proudly displaying the new you all year long!

1. Post your goals on a door. Actually write your resolutions down, in black and white, and post them on your bedroom or refrigerator door. It will be harder for you to “forget” them or let them fade out of your mind if your priorities are staring you in the face everyday. And don’t just make a list of goals- make a list of the reasons you want to achieve those goals, also. Avoid the “out of sight, out of mind” mentality.

2. Grab a support buddy. Friends won’t always lend support if they don’t know you need it. Tell them in advance the worries you have about maintaining your resolutions. This will help down the road when you need specific support. They’ll know what to help you with, because they’ll know where your weaknesses are.

3. Keep it interesting. You’ll get bored if you try to stick to the same exact routine everyday, and once you become bored, it will be all too easy to quit. Want to start running daily? Make sure you’ve got an array of running routes, and you’ll never get bored with the run. Resolving to eat healthier? Try Diet.com’s Recipes section for over 1,000 delicious and healthy recipes that will keep you excited about all your dieting choices.

4. Plan ahead, know what triggers your bad habits. Make a list of things you can do to keep you from falling back into habits, BEFORE it comes up, so you’ re prepared.

5. Don’t give up! It is really important to allow yourself to make a few mistakes, without convincing yourself that you are a failure who will never succeed. Eating that piece of chocolate cake for dessert doesn’t mean your resolution to eat well this year is kaput. Slip-ups make us human, they don’t make us failures! Make a note of your blunder, and then get right back on track!!

It’s easy to become one of the many people who fall off the resolution wagon after a few weeks or months. Become an inspiration to those around you by demonstrating that making real, healthy changes IS possible, and that sticking with resolutions is worth the effort!!!
