Holiday Party Healthy Cocktail Tips
Welcome to Diet and Fitness Podcast, a free audio podcast sponsored by Diet.com. This is your fit, fun, and fabulous host, Lady Diet, ready to give you the skinny on the latest diet fitness health tips and news.
Holiday Parties abound this December- full of addicting appetizers and fancy drinks, it’s easy to snack your way over your calorie limit during seasonal gatherings if you aren’t careful. If you’re hosting a holiday party in the coming weeks, or you’re going to be attending one, give yourself and other party goers an early Christmas present, aka healthy, delicious cocktails.
Here are 5 tips for choosing the healthiest drinks and cutting back on some of those pesky liquid calories:
1) Love sugary malt beverages? They’re known by many to be diet-busting high-calorie drinks. Try new low calorie malt beverages like Long Beach Brewing Company’s low cal, low carb drink called Thin Ice. Only 90 calories, this beverage is sweetened with Splenda so you can celebrate without the guilt!
2) Making a mixed drink? Use diet versions of your favorite juices as mixers. When you’re measuring out alcohol, remember that one ounce of liquor is around 70 calories, and a shot, generally 1.5 ounces, is just under 100 calories.
3) Rather than using pre-made mixers to blend your own frozen drinks, try throwing fresh fruit and ice into the blender instead. You’ll get all the benefits of the fruit’s various nutrients and antioxidants, and none of the added sugar that pre-made mixers contain.
4) Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or not, white wine has fewer calories, around 80. Skip wine coolers like Arbor Mist which contain more calories because of the added sugar. If you’re bored with your usual pinot grigio and other white wines, try Rose, which has generally the same amount of calories and is a little bit more festive for the holidays!
5) Nix the whipped cream on your favorite hot holiday drinks. Instead, make your drink equally as beautiful and delicious by garnishing with bright colorful berries or sprinkling spices like nutmeg or cinnamon on top!
Remember that no matter how low-cal your holiday drink is, if you have a bunch of them, you’re going to go over your liquid calorie limit. Stick to a glass or two and pace yourself throughout the night! Have fun and celebrate this season with confidence!
