I'm so excited!!! I just found out my husband and I are going to have our first baby!!! Normally one would think this is a setback in weight loss efforts, but I am choosing to view it as something different.

Weight loss for me, is a by-product of a healthy life. So, throughout my pregnancy I'm counting on you guys to keep challenging me to stay active and eat right. Weight loss obviously probably won't happen until after the baby is born, but this is a great opportunity for me to jump start my new, healthy life!!

Opportunity is missed by most because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

This is big news! Congrats! Very Happy

Definitely stay on track with your eating and exercise. Not only will you and your baby be healthier in the long run, but you will find the whole pregnancy easier if you are taking care of yourself.

I would also suggest talking to the OBGYN about exercise while expecting. There are certain exercises that help carry the load as it were.

You are right that the focus is the healthy life. But don't think that weight loss is unlikely. Both times I only gained 9 lbs while pregnant. I was losing weight and gaining baby at the same time.

That is something that I had thought about. From the research I've been doing, it looks like because of my current weight, it is entirely possible for me to not gain weight at all throughout my pregnancy. But this of couse is something I will talk with my doctor about. For now exercise is walking. That's something I know I can do, and maybe a little weight training, but not much. At least that's the plan until I talk to the doctor.

WOWZAAAA!!!! That's amazing news!!!! Congratulations!

Wow, I am so psyched for you! Do you know how far along you are?

Make sure you talk to your doctor about the appropriate diet/exercise plan to be following now that you've got a baby on board! And keep us posted on how you're feeling along the way.

All the best,

I figure I'm about 4 weeks along. Not far at all. I am going to see the doc on Wednesday.

LOL I think it will be the first time I've ever been there when I don't care if they weigh me!

my doctor gave me an "approximate due date" of May 11th. So far I've been pretty good at eating right, loading up on fruits and veggies, but I've been totally craving carbs! Bread and pasta mostly... I've been trying to eat them in moderation and only whole wheat breads and pasta, but I ate so much last night for dinner I thought I was going to be sick! Embarassed

I have discovered that I'm hungry more often, but I get full faster, so I've been eating smaller portions (with the exception of dinner last night) more often. Not a bad routine to get into I suppose.

I've been trying to work in some exercise to my day, but I've been so tired, I just want to sleep all the time! But I'm not giving up. I will be healthy for my baby and my husband, and most importantly for myself!

There are some exercises that you can perform specifically to help you carry the extra weight in front and help with the birthing process. _What to expect when expecting_ or another prenatal book can point in the right direction.

That's great Sophie! Thanks! I was going to go to the library at lunch today anyway! I'll look for that one!

Congratulations!!! I remember finding out when I was pregnant with my son who will be 3 next month. It was like nothing I've ever experienced before. I'm so glad to hear that you are wanting to make sure you eat healthy during it. It's so easy to gain unnessary pregnancy weight. I gained 56 lbs. with my son and that is why I so much weight left over.

Don't think you can. KNOW YOU CAN!
