With "super-skinny" being the latest trend in the media, it's hard to stay focused on the real reason for losing weight. I just recently had to re-think the reasons for my extreme desire to be a size 4. What were your initial reasons for wanting to lose weight ? Was it to improve you life-style? To be able to run around with your kids? Or was it simply to just LIVE longer?

RE: Why?
My initial reason is to look good again! I got down to my ideal self a few years back and long to be there again. I just want to fit into my old clothes and not have to worry if I look okay in what I have on. A big thing is to FEEL good about myself again, too. My self-esteem is pretty low right now. I think a lot of the time I also lose touch with the "health" aspect of it because I'm so focused on looking good that I don't so much care about how healthy it will make me. But, when I really stop and think about it, I DO want to be healthy and have more energy. Another big one is that I don't want to have to worry about running into somebody I know and them thinking how fat I am now. Lots of reasons, lots of reasons!

RE: Why?
I guess I never really said my reason. When I started my "weight loss journey" (LOL) I really just wanted to feel better and lighter and eat healthier. The more I dieted the worse I seemed to feel! I lost ten pounds but I never felt good enough and I would look at all my friends and constantly compare myself to how they looked. After a while I finally realized that I wasn't helping myself by constantly cutting myself down. And by comparing myself to others, my friends, celebrities, models, I am not doing anything towards my goal- to feel better. So I stopped worrying so much and am feeling better than ever. The scale doesn't measure how much your worth... you do.

RE: Why?
I want to look and feel better. I certainly would love to be a size 4 but I would be happy with an 8 or even a 10! I dont want to be embarrassed anymore to go to social things and worry about people saying OMG, did you see how big Becky has gotten? I was really skinny in High School and I am totally not that now! I want to be healthy so I can see my grandkids way on down the line!

RE: Why?
I wanted to lose weight because I wanted to look GOOD! Well, guess what...I still want to look GOOD! However, my sister just had a scare (18) because she has TREMENDOUSLY high blood pressure and a clogged artery....and I realized that that could very well be me....I'm OK now, but I am still 23. Today when I was working out and feeling my heart pound...I thought...wow....that sure feels good and I'm exercising it so it can make my body function properly!

RE: Why?
Because of my health! I don't want to get sick from being overweight. I'm very lucky that I am still healthy at the weight I'm at. Meaning I don't have high blood pressure, diabetes or anything else related to being oveweight. I want to lose weight to reduce my risk! I want to feel better and I don't want food to rule my life!!!

RE: Why?
I have a few different reasons. I want to be a good role model for my son and I want to have the energy to keep up with him.. He's 2 1/2 years old.

I also want to look good and feel good about myself! It's such a good mood booster!

Health - doctor says I have to lose 200 pounds because I'm too heavy for a tracheostomy. a few scary nights with Jesus coming to visit and talk about going home.

RE: Why?
I want to lose weight to stay healthy for my children. I want to see grand babies in the future. Plus I'm still pretty young, there is a lot I want to see so if I want that to be possible I need to be healthy

RE: Why?
My initial reasoning is to feel better about myself. I have put on 80lbs in the past 2 years and I can tell a difference in my body! For instance, I just came back from Holiday World last week and while I was there, I felt miserable. I was sweating so much it was embarrasing. Not to mention that when I tried to get into the roller coasters I noticed I barely fit in them, which is so embarrasing. :( Plus I have 3 wonderful children and I want to live long enough to see my grandbabies one day! One last thing, I am still kinda young, 28, and if I make the changes now then it will be easier to eat this way and exercise for the rest of my life! I only have one life to live and I want to feel as if I am living and not just wasting away!
