When taking a diet and weight history on my patients, it's very common to hear women say that they lost weight for their wedding day.
The problem is that many of these same women start to gain weight on their honeymoon and before they know it, they end up being 10 or more pounds away from their wedding weight before they even really notice.
To avoid this happening to you, it's best to take a longer term outlook when it comes to losing weight for your wedding day. Instead of preparing just to get into that smaller sized gown for that walk down the aisle, think about getting healthier so you can walk into your new life together – with the groom.
Forget about fad diets that promise quick weight loss because I promise you most of them are not sustainable and can lead to quick weight regain. Instead, start eating more fruits and vegetables, watch your portion sizes and commit to regular exercise. Do the one activity that has been proven to help people lose weight by tracking your daily food intake. Use an online food tracker like the one we have here on Diet.com or do it the old fashioned way with paper and pen.
Planning a wedding can be a stressful time so engaging in non-food related, stress reducing activities like taking a yoga class, getting a massage or going for regular energy walks can be helpful. And - if the bride and groom can commit to doing some of these activities together, this is the best situation of all as together you'll be building healthy habits that will last a lifetime.
