Sensational Cinco de Mayo Makeoversposted @8:31am ET on May 2, 2008
It's Cinco de Mayo... let the celebration begin!
Mexican restaurants will be bustling through Monday in celebration of Cinco de Mayo.
Contrary to what most people think, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day (that's actually September 16). Rather, it is a holiday that commemorates the victory of Mexico over French armies in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It is most widely celebrated in part of Mexico and the U.S. where there is a larger Mexican population.
One thing is for sure, we all love to partake in delicious Mexican food and imbibe in frosty margaritas. For many of us, this is an excuse to indulge – but such indulgence can take a toll on our weight loss efforts, especially if the celebration continues through the weekend!
The good news – it is still possible to enjoy and stay within healthy parameters. Take a look at the following Cinco de Mayo makeovers and plan your own celebration at home with family and friends.
On the Border Grande Chicken Nachos: 1,890 calories and 113g fat (49 g saturated fat)
Chevy’s Sizzling Chicken Fajitas (with flour tortillas): 1,213 calories and 54g fat (19 g saturated fat)
Chipotle Steak Burrito: 1,168 calories and 50g fat (19 g saturated fat)
16-oz. Margarita: 752 calories and 0g fat.
Low-Cal, High-Fun Margarita!
Have a healthy celebration!
