NatureBox Reviewposted @9:00am ET on June 5, 2012
Last month we found ourselves chatting with a company called NatureBox - a monthly subscription service that - for $19.95/month - delivers subscribers a box of healthy snacks each month. We liked what we heard, and NatureBox offered to send us a box of their April snacks to review.
I'm always on the lookout for new healthy snacks, because I think it's really important to make sure you never feel too hungry during the day. Planned, healthy snacking has been shown to aid in maintaining a healthy weight, because you're maintaining control of your hunger. (Imagine what kind of bad things you could be tempted to eat quickly if you let yourself get completely famished during the day!)
So what's the deal with NatureBox? And what kind of snacks are they sending their subbies?
First off, I have to say I was super excited to open my door one day and see a good-sized box sitting there waiting for me on my doorstep! This is what you'll see upon opening:
Inside there were a handful of individually packaged, full-sized snack options. Each package includes around 3-5 servings. NatureBox has taken snacks that you hear health-conscious people recommending all the time – pumpkin seeds, pistachios, sunflower seeds, trail mixes – and they jazzed them up! These are the sophisticated versions of all of those foods. The package also included an insert with descriptions of each snack, and this little tidbit:
“Are you chowing down on bag of chips or noshing endlessly on cookies but wondering why your hunger comes back before dinner? Your snacks aren’t filling enough – they don’t have enough protein, fiber and healthy fats. This NatureBox is loaded with nutrient rich foods that taste great and will fill you up.”
On their website, NatureBox describes their philosophy on food: "We take pride in picking the healthiest and most delicious snacks for you to enjoy. You can trust that our products will be made from the most wholesome ingredients and will be minimally processed, if at all. Everything you eat from us will abide by our strict quality standards."
Those strict quality standards include the following:
- No High Fructose Corn Syrup
- No Partially Hydrogenated Oils
- No Trans Fat
- No Artificial Sweeteners
- No Artificial Flavors
- No Artificial Colors
On to the snacks! What was included?
Peppery Pistachios – I think these were my favorite ... Continue
