Katrina's Mocha Smoothie

Try out my Morning Mocha Smoothie! Most people never give up their coffee. I don't blame you because I love my coffee too. When I work with people on their diet I encourage them to eat enough small meals throughout the day. This means breakfast!! Remember that it is important to fuel your body and get your metabolism going for the day. Try to consume 30 grams of protein at breakfast... this smoothie is my way of getting my protein in. A blend of chocolate, milk and coffee will give you the jolt you need for the day and will keep your blood sugar levels steady. Let me know how you like it!

You will need...

-Your normal portion of coffee (1 or 2 cups)

-1/2 to a 1 full cup of milk (I use a 1/2 cup of skim)

-I also use a little natural yogurt to give it a creamy base and for some natural sweetness. If you want you can add your splenda.

- A few ice cubes (It helps to make coffee ice cubes the night before by pouring coffee into ice trays!)

- 1 scoop Chocolate Whey Protein! Yumm. Blend everything together. I also like my little blender-- The Bullet.

Your smoothie will have between 150-230 calories. It depends if you have milk and yogurt. You will have 30 grams of protein, 25 grams of carbohydrate and 1 gram of fat... oh and your energy for the day! If this isn't the perfect quick breakfast then I don't know what is. Plus... I love my chocolate! For any questions about nutrition or your workouts go to my website ToneItUp.com or write me a message on Diet.com.

@ 8:45am ET on March 5, 2009 where can you buy Chocolate Whey Protein ?
@ 4:18pm ET on March 10, 2009 I would like to know if introducing a protein supplement in my diet is a good thing? I like to workout and weight train 5 times a week. I am a little aprehesive to get a whey protein. Is it the best way to increase your protein without increasing your calorie intake?
@ 7:56pm ET on March 10, 2009 I tried this smoothie this morning. I used chocolate caramel whey protein (GNC) since I already had it on hand. I also added splenda and a little vanilla extract. This was a great breakfast treat. Next time I am going to add 1/2 of a banana in place of the yogurt.
@ 7:59pm ET on March 10, 2009 I buy my whey protein at GNC at any mall. I use their brand. It comes in a resealable bag in many flavors. The strawberry and strawberry banana are great in smoothies mixed with fruit and juice or milk.
@ 6:42pm ET on March 13, 2009 didn't have yoghurt, but omgosh yummy!!!!!

@ 12:28pm ET on April 28, 2009 Hey Katrina, Great videos :). The funny thing is I don't normally drink coffee but I tried this mocha smoothie today and it was delicious! I will definetly be having this smoothie again. Keep bringing more recipes! I also really liked the peanut butter protein bars. Many thanks, Kayleigh.
@ 10:50am ET on August 13, 2009 Would vanilla whey powder with a little cocoa powder work in place of the chocolate whey powder?
