Are you losing weight but not losing it where you want? There’s a reason for that…. You cannot lose weight from just one particular part of your body (aka – “spot reduce”). Genetics and gender dictate how and where body fat is stored in your body. Which means that no matter how many crunches you do, your tummy may just stay exactly as it is.

But don’t stop working out just yet, you can maximize your workouts to trim down and look your best if you just choose the right moves. What are the right moves? Well exercises that work multiple muscle groups (ex: Biceps and Quadriceps) will burn more calories and more overall fat.

What do these moves look like? Here are three exercises that use more than one muscle group… Try to incorporate at least two or three of these types of exercises into your regular workouts.

1.    Static Lunge with Bicep Curl (Recommended weight – 5 – 10 lbs)
Works Quads, Glutes, Biceps

3.    Single Leg Kickbacks (Recommended weight – 5 – 8 lbs)
Works Glutes, Hamstrings, Quads, Core, Triceps

Recommendation: 3 sets of these with 10 – 15 reps (on each side if applicable).

Good luck!

@ 12:23am ET on August 9, 2009 Thanks a lot for this very useful info!! It has been a while since my las trip to the gym due to injuring my knees from running. Having being told I possibly won't be able to run another marathon if I don't train certain muscle groups intensively. This freaked me out putting fear into my regular exercise regime resulting in not doing any cardio work and gaining weight very quickly.
Gradually I am gaining confidence and now ready to take a different angle in my training program. I am hoping that these exercises will help in pushing me into the right direction and bust those added unwanted pounds.

Thanks again. Suzie
