Duped by Nutella? You May Be Entitled to $!posted @2:00pm ET on April 27, 2012
Hey Diet.commers - quick news clip to share with you today!
Have you seen a Nutella commercial within the last few years? If so, you've probably noticed that they often market themselves as a "healthy" option for a breakfast-type spread. The mothers in these commercials are shown to be excited about Nutella being a healthy option for their kids - and you may have been duped into believing them!
If you're super nutrition savvy and scoped out the Nutrition Info on the jars of Nutella, then you already know that the health claims were way out of whack! The spread is actually high in sugar, saturated fat AND calories. Not too far off from chocolate syrup or candy!
A bit of a "false advertising" lawsuit was brought against the makers of Nutella, Ferrero USA, Inc., and the settlement reached entitles anyone who purchased a jar of Nutella between 1/1/2008 and 2/3/2012, (or 8/1/2009 and 1/23/2012 in California) to $4 per jar that they've purchased, up to $20/household. It also requires Nutella to change its marketing completely.
Read more about the settlement here.
