So I have been doing the Beck Diet Solution and the 1 thing that I have to do every day is read a list of the reasons I want to lose weight. The book gives a list of examples to get you started but you are supposed to make your own list. My list includes (but is not limited to):
I will have more confidence.
People will respect me more.
I will be fit anough to hike to places I currently can not.
I will feel happy when I look in the mirror.
I will lower my risk of Type 2 Diabetes.
So tell me. Why are you doing this?
Leslie

- Because I want to be able to run long distances
- Because I want to hike without feeling I'm going to die
- Because I don't want to have a heart attack or heart disease at a young age
- Because I don't want to develop diabetes
- Because I feel better when I'm healthy |

I lost the weight because I want to:
look better
feel better
not run the risk for hypertension (my blood pressure was 120/80 as of yesterday it was 100/68!! WOO HOO! 120/80 is prehypertensive!)
gain confidence!

I want to loose weight because
I want to feel better about myself
I want to be healthier
I want to be a good example to my three little girls
I want to look in the mirror and be happy with what I see
I want to buy new clothes
I want to feel I have control over myself
I will get there

I want to lose weight because:
I want to be healthier
I want to relieve the plantar fasciitis in my feet
I want to run a 5K again without looking and feeling like I'm going to die.
I want to raise my self-esteem
I want my self-confidence back
I want to take care of the temple God gave me (that I haven't done such a good job with so far.) |

This question will never get old, and I will always love posting my ginormous lists of reasons why I want to lose weight. It always helps to constantly remind myself why I started this journey, especially in times like right now, and days like I had last week of why the heck am I doing this again, I just want to eat pie pop up more often..
This list has been 10 years in the making...
-reduce my risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol that runs in the family
-to be able to run, for more than 10 seconds without wheezziinngg
-to go shopping for clothes that I pick out, not just because they fit me, or made to hide my trouble spots
-to NOT have to quickly search for the "plus" size sections of stores and non-chalantly head there even though everyone knows I'm friggin headed there because obviously nothing else in the whole place will fit me
-which leads to, to go shopping in normal stores with my normal sized friends
-to go into a high end boutique and buy a pair of size 27 pants ( or whatever) for $300
-to find out what european size I can be at anyways lol, I don't even know the sizing chart for numbers that small
-to NOT have to fear going to places in my hometown for the risk of running into someone I know in highschool, and feeling soo ashamed for 'letting myself go'
-to run into an ex and leave him with his draw down*
-to do active things like bike riding, scuba diving, hiking or anything, without worrying that I won't make it, or am not in shape enough to do it
-to get married and focus on the moment and not if my stomach protrudes past my chest

- to look good naked
- to look better in clothes
- to leave behind the plus size shops/departments
- to not feel stupid or out of place at clubs & parties
- so that I can stop being the token fat friend surrounded by beautiful people
- that I might go running without running the risk of whiplash

- To encourage my husband to lose weight.
- To set the right example for my son (I was always the fat kid... I don't want him to know that feeling)
- To have a better pregnancy the second time around, when it happens
- To stop feeling disgusted when I look in the mirror
- So I can have a better "intimate life" with my husband
- So that I'm not so self-conscious
- Because skinny people clothes are far cuter than what my size clothes are
- To decrease my chances of all obesity-related diseases, especially diabetes.
- So that I can keep up with my son's high levels of energy that I just don't have.
My list goes on and on, really. This is just a portion of it. But the reasons on why I want to lose weight are strongly rivaled by my reasons for not losing it. |

I want to lose weight because:
I want to be a healthy person
I want to wear my favorite skirt and clothes that no longer fit.
I want to look and feel like the physially active person I have been in the past
I want to be a positive example for my patients

Reasons to keep my body fit (and burn a few lbs gained during the late winter / spring months)???
- To get my T2 Diabetes BG numbers under tighter management. Stay "off the D meds" as long as I can. Been 2 years and no mandatory "D" meds yet.
- To have a "healthier" internal. My outer visual image doesn't really matter to me. re: I'd rather be "a little plump and fit" compared to "a skinny and cannot walk up 20 flights of stairs type" unfit person. If wondering, I already walk up 20 flights of stairs every week. Excellent way to keep the lungs open.
- Already jog 1 mile every over night. I suppse jogging 2 miles every other night is a good goal to set as well.
- Today and 2 days ago, roller bladed 15 miles (7.5 miles round trip). I'd like to do this distance without creating sore leg muscles. Doing this distance "every day" would be a good goal to set.
Currently age 46. Would like to perform same or "more" physical activities when I turn 50. If wondering, my dad is 78 years old and still walks 5 miles a day. And he "does the stairs" as well. Slow motion speed but he does them every other day. And he's a T2 diabetic as well...
These are my reasons for mre to "keep fit". |
