Hey everyone,

For the past 5 or so years I've been super lazy I admit that. I gained some weight actually alot. I went from 160-170 to 220-230. I dealt with some personal stuff and at some point I just didn't care anymore during these 5 years I never did any kind of exercise or anything.

Now 2008...May at that I want to get back to my High School weight or around that range. I know I can do it if I set a realistic goal. I want to lose 50lbs or close to it by August/Sept. I'm already starting with some regular exercises. Been walking 4 Miles a day. I know its not a lot but before I would get tired from a short walk around the neighborhood now It's easy. I put a Basketball Court in the backyard and we just started to play daily for 1hour. Like I said I started recently and right everything is going good. My Stamina is coming back and I'm feeling better.

My eating hasn't changed much. Just did a few changes. No Soda, No Chips, and no snacks like candy bars etc. I started to eat more fruit and vegetables. Who knew Broccoli was so great. I'm gonna get away from red meat. Try to concentrate or healthier choices like. Chicken Breast...Turkey?...Fish stuff like that just lean meats. Chicken breast grilled is great and no need for oil's Smile.

I'll try to outline some of the stuff I can do regularly or atleast 3-4 times a week.

- I can walk everyday for 4 miles maybe more.
- Basketball 60minutes.
- Jogging 30-45 Minutes
- Riding a bike around the neighborhood I can do it daily for around 30minutes
- I have some dumbbells here maybe I can do something with them

Should I be doing something else? Or is this enough to get me back in shape? What should I change about my eating? I try to eat cereal/oatmeal for breakfast. For Lunch I try to eat a tuna sandwhich on wheat bread. For lunch is more of the same. Grilled Chicken or smoked salmon just depends on the day. For snacks etc I have fruits/vegetable...Apples, Oranges, Watermelon, Broccoli, celery...etc.

Any help is appreciated. Right now its May 6 I want to try and lose 50lbs or so by the last week of august or so. So I want to know if its realistic or Am I setting myself to fail?

The answer to your question is ....Maybe. You are eating pretty well. You have to have carbs, though. With that much activity you need your diet to be 60% carb, 20% protein and 20% fat. Carbs are fruits and vegetables, but especially carb-y veggies like corn, beans, peas, sweet potatoes, etc. Try to avoid white foods. They cause your blood sugar to spike.

You should be doing weight resistance. IF you don't know how get the book "Weights for Dummies" or go to a gym and have someone teach you. Weight resistance helps to maintain muscle mass while you lose weight, but it also helps excess skin shrink, is great avoidance technique for osteoporosis, and lots of other good things.

As far as losing it all by August....maybe. It will take lots of work and dedication to your exercise plan and even then there is no guarantee. People don't lose weight predictably overall. There are plateaus and there are weeks where you just don't lose weight but you lose inches. In the end, you may not lose all 50 lbs that you want too, but you may indeed have greater tone and muscles, be the same size and weigh more. Weight isn't the only measure!

Very Happy First of All Welcome!!! Very Happy
It sounds like your on the right track with eating & excercise.
A 50 LB weight loss by August/ September is totally within your reach!
Most people here are aiming for a loss of 1-2 Lbs per week.
Working out with the weights will tone & define your body so while your losing you won't get flabby. Also Water is a huge key. Try for 64 oz per day (that's 8 8oz glasses.) If you haven't taken the diet personality quiz you might want to, it can help find problem spots. Also using the meals tracker helps.
Best Wishes, keep us informed on your progress!!!

Thanks a lot. I will keep everyone inform about my progress weekly or every 2 weeks.

Weight Resistance...I should look to join the local gym and ask the trainers there what I should do. I mean the gym is only 2-3 minutes away on drive. Its a community gym but during the day is pretty empty.

You know guys even if I manage to lose 30-40lbs thats great but I am aiming for my weight from High School if I don't get to it I wont let it get me down. I've been working hard and I have told my family what I plan on doing. Everyone is giving me their full support. I'm starting to jog with my sister who is in Track and Field. She promised to take it easy Laughing

I'm glad I found this site everyone is very friendly and down to earth...from what I've read. So Thanks
