I agree with most of this article but I have yet to encounter anything where an "expert" claims tanning gets rid of cellulite. I have, however, in many instances read about tanning diminishing the visual appearance of cellulite, which I find to be true for some skin types.

The fact is that there is no known cure for cellulite. Most solutions out there are to manage the condition though many resort to marketing tricks which normally over promise and under deliver.
Use a combination of dieting (omega 3 foods). exercise you like and try out some cream that wont give you a horrible rash and it can be mitigated.
Here is a link to an article that hopefully provides some simple guidance http://bit.ly/pKFG1u

A deep, reductive massage is one of the essentials for the removal of cellulite but it is only effective when used simultaneously with other treatments. A massage (manual, machine or brush) helps to break up the fatty cells and toxins near the surface of the skin. Exercise is needed to increase blood circulation and an improved diet to increase the intake of real food and eliminate the toxins. An increased intake of drinking water is also essential to flush away the toxins. A cellulite cream is used to help improve the texture and appearance of the skin. Modern Spa treatments using laser therapy are effective and home-based treatments emulating this process as far as possible are also effective. The emphasis should be on simultaneous treatment for the best results. http://www.celluliteremovaltreatment.org
