Celebrity and Diet: Celebrity Eating Disorders

Celebrity Drive & Perfectionism Leads to Disorders

Who is the latest celebrity to admit to having an eating disorder? You'll never guess who else she outs!

Sorry I have been MIA for awhile. Things have been super busy for us at Diet.com. Finally it's Friday and I could use a serious long weekend! I am anti-columbus day, but hey, I'll take the day off from work. Any way, here is what you all have missed in celebrities and diet while I've been away.

-Brittney Snow is speaking out about her stint with anorexia in this weeks People magazine. Dropping down to as low at 87 pounds by age 14, Snow is now reaching out to other women with eating disorders. She appears in an educational video for the Jed Foundation, which brings awareness about mental health disorders and suicide in college students. Snow says it makes her upset that people think she is appearing in the video for publicity, which is often what it looks like when celebrities come out admitting a problem like an eating disorder. Here is the paragraph that was most eye opening for me:

The therapist diagnosed me with anorexia, exercise bulimia- instead of throwing up you go to the gym for hours-depression and body dysmorphia. All that, and yet I still had a career! It's shocking how many people in the business have great careers and this too, and don't talk about it. It's that drive and perfectionism.
-People Magazine
I find it interesting that she basically calls out other celebrities who have eating disorders saying, you can have problems, and people notice but still deny and live a successful career. Angelina, anyone?

-Mariah Carey is reporting that she has lost 25 pounds in this weeks Issue of OK! Magazine which I am protesting so I do not know the details. If you have read the article post her "diet and exercise" here. I highly doubt it is acurate, but entertaining none the less. PS I am boycotting OK! because I do not believe that Bridget Moynahan's baby is growing up without a Daddy. As a Tom Brady fanatic, let's be serious here. He is going to love that child, he is just in the middle of his best career start ever. If Bridget lived in Boston, Tom would be with his son everyweek. So while you aren't working Bridget, why don't you move back to your home state where your entire family lives! Stop being selfish and media hungry.

-And finally, please don't click here if you are the sensitive type. Two bloggers acknowleged the fact that eating disorders drive traffic to their website so they decided to try taking Alli even though they did not need it. The two self proclaimed alcohol loving ladies document their experience which may or not make you laugh. I kind of just think they are wasting money and time but whatever. What do you guys think?

The New 90210 Girls Too Skinny?

Is that CW show 90210 hurting the body acceptance movement? I think this show is the worst thing for girls' self esteem since Photoshop was first introduced.

It's reported that two of the main characters whose names you most likely don't know yet but are Shanea Grimes and Jessica Stroup are withering away. While supportive costars want you to believe their metabolisms are just really high, one insider told US weekly, "the two are chain smokers" and refrain from all food on set. Shenae weighs an estimated 90 lbs while Jessica who is 5 inches taller at 5'8'' weighs only 100 lbs. These are estimates made by looking at their bony frames but readers are outraged and demanding producers encourage the young stars to gain weight! Is the show setting a bad example at what a successful 18 year old is suppose to look like?

Friends and costars of the show stand by the girls claiming they naturally have high metabolisms - so now are we arguing cigarettes are natural because I'm pretty sure rat poison and natural have nothing in common.

Even Gossip Girl stud Penn Badgely said he hopes they eat a cheeseburger! A little overboard, DAN, but if asked for our opinion we would say, "Did the producers try putting them on that Caltene bar diet? If you don't know what a Caltene bar is, you should probably brush up on your Lindsey Lohan DVD collection. Conversely, The girls on Gossip Girl have received praise for their shapely figures - however, I guarantee they are pissed people are comparing the lead actresses figures. Some one said the almost unattainable skinny is normal in LA, where as in New York girls are known to be shapelier. Whoa New York - I think LA just called you fat!? What are you going to say to that?!

Weigh in below, do you think the girls on the set of 90210 should be required to put some more meat on their bones? Are the leads hurting the recent progress that's been made in helping woman accept their bodies?

Nikki Hilton Weight Loss - Scary Skinny?

Just when you thought that super skinny was out, it turns out Nikki Hilton is a laggard (a little bit college vocab for you all). Gasp! The diet diva remembered something from an econ class sophomore year of college... A laggard is the last person to jump on the bandwagon basically (it's suppose to refer to new technology but whatever, pop culture trends work just as well in my book). Here is a recent photo of her. Her knees just look bony and awkward. Yuck! Paris looks better than her (body wise). Bethenny Frankel told me in an interview once that the Hilton's don't diet. They eat what they want but just enough until they are full, like a few bites of cheese burger, never the entire thing. It looks like little sis has applied this to her salads now as well.

Here is another pic from Halloween. What do you guys think? Does Nikki need to add pounds to her small frame? If anyone hears that she is on a special diet let me know, and I'll post it for ya'll. The only info that came up on google was stuff that I wrote about!
