Celebrity Drive & Perfectionism Leads to Disorders
Who is the latest celebrity to admit to having an eating disorder? You'll never guess who else she outs!
Sorry I have been MIA for awhile. Things have been super busy for us at Diet.com. Finally it's Friday and I could use a serious long weekend! I am anti-columbus day, but hey, I'll take the day off from work. Any way, here is what you all have missed in celebrities and diet while I've been away.
-Brittney Snow is speaking out about her stint with anorexia in this weeks People magazine. Dropping down to as low at 87 pounds by age 14, Snow is now reaching out to other women with eating disorders. She appears in an educational video for the Jed Foundation, which brings awareness about mental health disorders and suicide in college students. Snow says it makes her upset that people think she is appearing in the video for publicity, which is often what it looks like when celebrities come out admitting a problem like an eating disorder. Here is the paragraph that was most eye opening for me:
The therapist diagnosed me with anorexia, exercise bulimia- instead of throwing up you go to the gym for hours-depression and body dysmorphia. All that, and yet I still had a career! It's shocking how many people in the business have great careers and this too, and don't talk about it. It's that drive and perfectionism. -People Magazine
I find it interesting that she basically calls out other celebrities who have eating disorders saying, you can have problems, and people notice but still deny and live a successful career. Angelina, anyone?
-Mariah Carey is reporting that she has lost 25 pounds in this weeks Issue of OK! Magazine which I am protesting so I do not know the details. If you have read the article post her "diet and exercise" here. I highly doubt it is acurate, but entertaining none the less. PS I am boycotting OK! because I do not believe that Bridget Moynahan's baby is growing up without a Daddy. As a Tom Brady fanatic, let's be serious here. He is going to love that child, he is just in the middle of his best career start ever. If Bridget lived in Boston, Tom would be with his son everyweek. So while you aren't working Bridget, why don't you move back to your home state where your entire family lives! Stop being selfish and media hungry.
-And finally, please don't click here if you are the sensitive type. Two bloggers acknowleged the fact that eating disorders drive traffic to their website so they decided to try taking Alli even though they did not need it. The two self proclaimed alcohol loving ladies document their experience which may or not make you laugh. I kind of just think they are wasting money and time but whatever. What do you guys think? |

Lily Allen Defends Herself
Lilly Allen was once known for her antics, and honest blogging on MySpace. She poured out her heart in one entry saying she was depressed and would never be a size zero. She criticised the other Hollywood starlets for their skinny frames. Recently Allen has been spotted looking much leaner. Hypocrit many blogger asked? Yes and No. Sure she slammed the majority of Hollywood for caving into the thin-pressures, but I think we owe it to the formerly-troubled brittish sensation to cut her some slack.

She was thrust into fame here in America, very quickly might I add. Now, she is defending her weight loss and saying it's for health reasons. Which is why people should lose weight. She reportedly lost 19 pounds in just six weeks, going from a size 12 to a reasonable size 8.
Allen told Grazia magazine:
“I found out I had a heart murmur about three months ago. I had switched doctors and just went for a routine check up, which is when they discovered I had this irregular murmur.
I have been asthmatic all my life, but this was really quite scary. When they asked me how much exercise I did, I had to be honest and say hardly any.
I make sure I work out three times a week now, and I don’t hold back. It’s a hardcore routine and I’m usually in the gym for at least an hour-and-a-half.
I used to love nothing more than sitting in front of the telly with two packets of Ginger Nuts and two bags of milk bottle sweets - and I’d devour the lot. But this heart thing has made me cut back on all that kind of crap. I now find that, because I am looking after myself, I don’t feel like eating the bad stuff so much.
I really want to stress that I haven’t done this because I want to become some skinny minnie - I will never be like that. I just like being more toned, it has made me really happy and I know I will never be super skinny because I would never be happy.
I was going pretty crazy back in the summer, drinking way too much and partying loads. But now I don’t want to drink so much, I’ve been cutting back. I should also give up smoking, but haven’t quite managed that yet.”
SIDE NOTE: Many different blogs covered her weight loss in early October when Lily told reporters that she lost the weight through hypnosis. Is she lying about becoming a fitness freak or did the hypnosis make her into one? She is also rarely seen without a cigarette in mouth. |

Is Sienne Miller Crazy or Honest?
If you Google search "Sienna Miller" and "diet", you'll find dozens of links to pages about the star's Vodka Diet.
According to one site, "Instead of having a glass of wine with her meal, [Miller] had a shot of vodka and it worked wonders. Not only did the liquor help her lose the pounds, but it also gave her that ghastly appearance that she wanted her character [in the film 'Factory Girl'] to have."
Okay, that doesn't sound so much as a crash diet as it does a calorie-swap. But the phrase "Vodka Diet" is really eye catching, isn't it?

Not that the star needs much help.
Miller and her pal Keira Knightley have both been reported to have eating contests on the set of their latest movie, the Edge of Love.
The two women boast their appetites, one source says they eat more than the men on set.

One person told tabloids, "Keira was told to beef up for the role and she and Sienna have been having food competitions to see who can eat the most. At the moment they are on a curry diet where they can have curries for lunch and dinner, and eggs Benedict for breakfast."

Sienna Miller says she gets her great body from clever camera angles and makeup. She told Britain’s Closer magazine, "They spray make-up all over your body so you don’t see the stretch marks that we girls all have."

Sienna says she's comfortable with her weight and refuses to go on a diet. She was allegedly "horrified that her breasts shrank to a 32B cup size after she slimmed down for her role as Edie Sedgwick in the movie" and said "I don’t eat salads and I don’t drink skinny coffee. I do run around a lot but I’m not healthy. One day I’ll wake up and my bum will be on the floor!"
