Atkins Diet

Where The Atkins Diet Started?

The Atkins Diet is the most marketed and well-known low carb diet around. It was cre-ated by Dr. Robert Atkins (1930-2003) in the 1960s. After successfully treating over ten thousand patients, he popularized the Atkins Diet in a series of books, starting with Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution in 1972. Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, is an updated version of the original Atkins Diet. The Atkins Diet philosophy has been embraced by an esti-mated 20+ million people worldwide since the release of the book Dr. Atkins' Diet Revo-lution in the 1970s.

How The Atkins Diet Works?

The Atkins Diet counts net carbs. Net carbs are the carbohydrates content in certain carbs such as sugar and alcohols. The Atkins Diet restricts processed/refined carbohy-drates (which make up over 50% of many people's diets), such as high-sugar foods, breads, pasta, cereal, and starchy vegetables. The reason for this is to make the body quickly burn up the carbs and begin to burn the other proteins and food that we digest. Since the body attacks the carb first, this diet wants us to burn through them quicker and reducing them is the best way to do so.

The Main Benefits Of The Atkins Diet

With the Atkins Diet, you can start to burn fat for energy. Since carbohydrates are the body's primary energy source, you'll rarely use your secondary energy source, your own body fat, for energy unless you restrict carbohydrate consumption. This offers a lifetime of body fat burning, which is the goal of most people trying to lose weight. You won't feel hungry in between meals: The biggest battle that most people have with other weight loss plans is the constant obsession with food (for example, if you've ever thought about dinner when you're eating lunch). By cutting the carbs, you'll maintain a more even blood sugar level throughout the day. No more false hunger pains or mid-afternoon brain drains.

The Down Side To Atkins Diet

Not too long ago the Atkin's Diet was a top celebrity diet. However, the Atkins Diet has lost most of its popularity. Other diets like the South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet and the LA weight loss diet have taken over. These diets allow dieters to follow a more balanced plan that they can follow for life. The Atkins Diet, once known as the best weight loss program around, ended up providing only short term results for most people.
